Györ and Metz share spoils in MOTW; FTC end Brest’s winning run

Only two matches took place on the opening day of the EHF Champions League Women round 5, but those were high-octane games, as all four playing teams had boasted a perfect record in the competition.

However, both Györi Audi ETO KC and Metz Handball, who faced off in the Match of the Week in group B, dropped their first points, as their dramatic game ended in a draw. The other French-Hungarian duel took place in group A, and FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria maintained their 100 per cent record, as they won at Brest Bretagne Handball.

It was a really tough game, and of course, we are disappointed with the result because we gave everything we had tonight. It's difficult to find positives immediately after a defeat like this, especially after such an intense battle. We fought hard and did our best, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Now, we need to look ahead, keep working and continue to improve. I hope we can come back stronger and feel fresher for our next game.

We are really happy to have two points here. Playing here in Brest is never easy, and this victory means a lot to us because now we are in a better position in the group standings. And yes, it was not an easy game, as I said, but I think we tried our best. We played our system. We were always focused, and that was the key to the victory today.

We’re happy with the point, even though it wasn’t what we came here for. What we can be proud of is how hard we fought throughout the game. We knew that Metz play at an extremely high pace, and our matches against them are always tough. We had some good moments that we can build on, but we made too many mistakes. Still, one point is better than none, so we’re satisfied with it.

It was a very difficult match, and we had to stay incredibly focused at every moment. Sometimes one team was in the lead, sometimes the other, and it was a closely contested battle. Getting a point was very important to us, and we really wanted to achieve that. We prepared well and had a relatively clear game plan, which worked well. There were mistakes, but it was a very good match, and I think a draw was a fair result.
