SUMMARY: Barça and Veszprém keep perfect records in thrilling round 4
Before heading into a three-week break, the Machineseeker EHF Champions League 2022/23 continued with round 4 this week, highlighted by Thursday's Match of the Week between Elverum Handball and Barça in the iconic Håkons Hall in Lillehammer.
We are really satisfied with our game. We played a very good game and it’s an important win at home. We pushed during all game long and the performance was great and at a high level. We have to continue to play like that.
Our goal is to finish in the two first spots of the group. We are focused on that objective. I’m happy to pass the bar of 100 goals in Champions League — it’s always good news. But more important is the final victory.
I think we played a very good first half, then in the second half we made too many mistakes against one of the best teams in the world. We have a young team and we have to learn from it.
We didn’t quite manage to close the first situations so they punished us for our mistakes. Even when
we scored a goal they came running and punished us. Barça are a world-class team and this is what we
want to look like — this is the standard we aim to reach.
I am very happy for my team. They deserved this victory, deserve this score. In the first half we felt a little pressure, because we knew the match is very important. We fought, fought, fought, but forgot our plan. In the last minutes of the first half, when we made some changes in defence and recovered the score, we broke this feeling a little. The second half was amazing. The team played amazing in atack and in defence against a strong team who played seven-to-six. The fans were fanstastic.
We played a really good game with a lot of intensity, fighting spirit and concentration. It’s not easy to come to Celje and win like this. I have a lot of respect for them — they are a good young team. I am really happy for my players. They showed a really good performance and deservedly won this away game.
