Hypo Niederösterreich were the dominant force in women’s handball from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, winning eight European Champions Cup and EHF Champions League titles. Scoring goals for fun from the right wing in the middle four of those eight, was Iris Morhammer.
The Vienna native was a youngster when she made the trip north to Maria Enzersdorf, and was still 18 years old when she won the first of her European titles, in 1992. She won a further three trophies in the next three seasons, bringing her total to four in four years.
Morhammer moved on from Hypo in 1997 to spend a season in Bergen, before finishing her career back in Austria with Wiener Neustadt after suffering several knee injuries. During her time playing for both Hypo and Neustadt Morhammer won eight Austrian championships and eight Austrian Cups.
Capped 237 times and scoring 663 goals, she was part of the two Austria squads to medal at major women’s tournaments, taking home bronze from both EHF EURO 1996 and the 1999 World Championship.
